Jackie Chan’s era of sequels: THE SHADOW’S EDGE sweeps the Hong Kong Film Awards and secures a second instalment
THE SHADOW’S EDGE was a genuine surprise hit in 2025 with spectacular action scenes, which were also recognized at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards in 2026. Months ago, Jackie Chan announced a sequel – now it’s official.
To clarify one thing upfront: THE SHADOW’S EDGE is a reimagining of a 2007 Hong Kong film in which Tony Leung Ka-Fai also starred. EYE IN THE SKY, the title of the original, is Yau Nai-Hoi’s only directorial effort. His film already spawned a 2013 remake in South Korea called COLD EYES, in which Simon Yam, the lead actor of the Hong Kong original, also makes a cameo appearance. With THE SHADOW’S EDGE, Larry Yang (RIDE ON) wrote a modern version of the story and left the ending open for a sequel.
This was announced by Jackie Chan shortly after the film’s release in China: “We are already considering how we can make a sequel.” The total box office receipts of over 1.2 billion Yuan, or over 170 million USD, ensured preferential treatment for the sequel in Chan’s tight schedule, which has recently been flooded with other (alleged) sequels to POLICE STORY, ARMOUR OF GOD and RUSH HOUR.
During the Redgala event on March 27, 2026, Chan confirmed once again that the script for the second instalment was already being written. Now, during the iQIYI World Conference in Beijing on April 20, 2026, the sequel has been officially confirmed – as with the first film, iQIYI will present the sequel.

Chinese title: 捕风追影2
English title: THE SHADOW’S EDGE 2
Written and directed by Larry Yang
Filming is scheduled to begin in autumn 2025.
Meanwhile, the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards took place on April 19, 2026, at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. THE SHADOW’S EDGE won two awards: Tony Leung Ka-Fai won Best Actor, and Su Hang, from the 8th generation of Jackie Chan Stunt Team, won Best Action Choreography.
Since THE SHADOW’S EDGE is the first Jackie Chan film to be a China-Hong Kong co-production in many years – the last being CHINESE ZODIAC (2012) – and was also filmed predominantly in neighboring Macau, it remains to be seen whether Chan will return to his former home of Hong Kong cinematically and film the sequel in the former crown colony of Great Britain.
Superstar Chow Yun-Fat could actually help Chan with his comeback. According to recent rumours from sources whose authenticity can be considered reliable, Chow Yun-Fat will share the screen with Jackie Chan for the very first time in THE SHADOW’S EDGE 2. Film expert Frank Djeng posted this on 20 April at 3:34 PM in the Facebook group “Hong Kong Cinema Appreciation Society II”.
“Chow Yun Fat will join Jackie Chan for The Shadow’s Edge 2. Filming will start at the end of 2026 for a 2027 summer release. This will be the first ever collaboration between Chow and Chan.” – Frank Djeng
“Let’s be clear this is a rumor not fact yet” – F.J. DeSanto
“I wouldn’t call it a rumor. More like an unconfirmed fact” – Frank Djeng
