Chantastic November: Jackie Chan with two Films in German Cinemas
To mark the 40th anniversary of Jackie Chan’s POLICE STORY, Splendid Film brought it back to German cinemas last October, uncut and in 4K. Now, two more Chan films are following suit in November, including a one-off German premiere.
The KommKino in Nuremberg is kicking things off. Back in spring 2025, the popular cinema in Bavaria organised a Jackie Chan weekend featuring many of his classics. An absolute highlight for organisers and guests alike were the two members of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, Max Huang and Thomas Hacikoglu, both from Nuremberg, who got the crowd in the mood for the chantastic films.
FANTASY MISSION FORCE (1983)
Now the Filmfabrik following up with a cult classic of the SchleFaZ variety at the KommKino (SchleFaZ is a German show where hosts mock C movies). As part of “Tuesday Trash Night”, the often forgotten or ignored film FANTASY MISSION FORCE from 1983 will be shown on 18 November at 9:15 p.m. Even though Chan only makes a guest appearance in the film, this decadent treat is a real feast for fans of the C-movie genre.
Be warned: Taiwanese nonsense comedy – the genre is called Mou Lai Tou – is not for the faint-hearted. The film is rated 16. In the words of KommKino:
“At the height of his success, Jackie Chan has to contend with cannibalistic Amazons and samurai Nazis in a minor supporting role – during the Second World War, of course. The Japanese attack an Allied military base somewhere in Canada. After several generals – including one who identifies himself as Abraham Lincoln – are captured by the Japanese, Lieutenant Don Wen (Jimmy Wang Yu) assembles a rescue team consisting of soldiers wearing kilts, a homeless man, a supposed escape artist and a femme fatale wearing high red boots and carrying a bazooka […] Jackie Chan’s involvement in this film was a favour he owed to Jimmy Wang Yu, who helped him get out of a mafia-like contract clause that had been imposed on him by his former employer Lo Wei. So the film may be a bit of a sham, with Jackie Chan promoting it a little too prominently for his meagre screen time, but it’s an excellent candidate for Tuesday Trash Night!”

THE SHADOW’S EDGE (2025)
Take advantage of these few days to relax before continuing with a German premiere the following weekend. With THE SHADOW’S EDGE (German title: SHADOW CHASE: IM NETZ DER DIEBE), Jackie Chan proves that even at over 70 years of age, he can still deliver hard-hitting action films. The German-language home cinema release will not be available until January 2026 from the Plaion Pictures label. However, the WEIRD WEEKENDER International Film Festival was able to obtain the film in its original version with English subtitles.
Saturday, 22 November 2025, will probably be the only chance to see the Chinese action film on the big screen in Germany. Anyone who already has a festival pass for the event in Stuttgart can count themselves lucky, as only a few tickets for the film are currently available. Check the Ticket Finder!
Weird Weekender writes on Instagram: “Jackie Chan is back in top form, with spectacular fight choreography and hard-hitting action! In this year’s centrepiece THE SHADOW’S EDGE (German title: SHADOW CHASE: IM NETZ DER DIEBE), he takes on a ruthless gang of thieves. An action thriller for the big screen!”
The film will be presented on site by KINO+ legend Daniel Schröckert, who will give a short introduction at around 7 p.m. at EM2 in Stuttgart’s Innenstadtkinos cinema. Anyone who is still hyped up after the film can sweat out the remaining adrenaline at the after-show party to the beats of Daniel Schröckert.
