Jackie Chan meets with RUSH HOUR director Brett Ratner and old friend in Los Angeles

On his trip through Los Angeles, Jackie Chan met up with director Brett Ratner and RUSH HOUR 3 actress Zhang Jingchu for dinner last night. Will they bring the band back for part 4?

On 27 October, it was reported that Jackie Chan was in Beverly Hills. By chance, he met Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan in front of the famous The Maybourne Beverly Hills Hotel. You can read about the encounter here.

Now, one day later, more photos of Chan the Man are causing a stir. The likeable Chinese actor met for dinner with none other than RUSH HOUR director Brett Ratner. The two have met repeatedly in recent years, most recently in 2022 at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. They certainly discussed a fourth RUSH HOUR film.

But the real highlight was someone else. Actress Zhang Jingchu is unlikely to be familiar to most people. Now 45, she starred alongside Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in RUSH HOUR 3 in 2007, playing the character Soo Yung. She was also the one who shared the two photos online.

“Always feel so warm catching up with Jackie — and what a surprise to see Brett there too! A flood of memories came rushing back — I looked so young as Soo Young! 😂
Jackie’s still the king of “feeding everyone,” and I left feeling deeply encouraged — to make meaningful films, stay original, find my voice, take my time, and always remember that the script is the heart of everything.

After making the tough decision to turn down all acting and remake-directing offers for the next two years to focus purely on studying and writing, their words couldn’t have come at a better time — truly affirming and inspiring.”

Born in Fujian, China, in 1980, Zhang Jingchu (張靜初) studied English at the Beijing New Oriental Institute and directing at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. She has an impressive filmography and has worked with top stars and directors. Even though she writes in her Instagram post that she has turned her back on acting to finish her directing studies, we can see that she is still active.

Are Chan and Ratner perhaps in negotiations with Zhang Jingchu to convince Soo Yung to be the “strong female lead” in a possible fourth instalment of RUSH HOUR?

Coincidentally, a reel that was uploaded back in September 2023 is currently going viral again. It shows a montage of the singing scene from Mariah Carey’s song “Fantasy” from RUSH HOUR (1998) featuring the young Soo Yung and a re-recorded singing scene with an older actress. Many fans are still confused as to whether it is the real Soo Yung from the film.

The girl with the amazing Mariah Carey performance from 1998 is Julia Hsu, who was replaced by Zhang Jingchu in RUSH HOUR 3 (2007). The woman in the viral video is Nicole Wong, fitness and social media coach/influencer.
